![]() | The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Niranjan Shah said that the five-year ban imposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar on disciplinary grounds would not affect his participation in the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) starting from April 18. “Though it is too early to say anything right now, I don’t see the ban affecting his participation in the IPL Twenty20 tournament as the foreign players have already produced the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective boards,” Shah told Cricketnext on Tuesday. Refusing to react on the proposed ban, Shah said, “It is their internal matter and I cannot comment on it.” The five-year ban on one of the world’s fastest bowlers could be a blessing in disguise for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Akhtar will now be able to pledge full commitment to Knight Riders led by Sourav Ganguly. Meanwhile, Akhtar’s new ball partner Mohammad Asif, who has been left out of the one-day side against Bangladesh for a shoulder niggles, is also likely to play in the inaugural match for his IPL team Delhi Daredevils provided he proves his fitness. However, other Pakistan players including their skipper Shoaib Malik, who plays for Delhi Daredevils, Misbah-ul-Haq (Bangalore Royal Challenge), Shahid Afridi (Deccan Chargers, Hyderabad) and Akhtar’s Kolkata Knight Riders’ team-mates Umar Gul, Salman Butt and Mohammad Hafeez and Younis Khan and Kamran Akmal (Rajasthan Royals, Jaipur) will be available to represent their respective teams in the IPL from April 27 onwards as they will be busy playing for their national team in the one-dayers. |
