Happy Birthday, Aamir Khan Aamir Khan who celebrated his 43rd birth anniversary today (March 14) has traveled a very long journey in Bollywood. Starting as a child artiste in the 1970's hit 'Yaadon Ki Baaraat' (1973) to 'Taare Zameen Par', he has definitely come up as one of the very few of the finest actors in the Hindi film industry. The actor reached the top status with his movie 'Lagaan: Once upon a time in India' being nominated to the Oscars though not succeeding there. The film critics say that Aamir is the one Bollywood actor who fits very well in the character he plays. His USP is his acting in all genres of Indian films - comedy, action, drama and romance. Besides, he never repeats the same role. He is called as a "perfectionist" as he attend to each and every aspect of his role, irrespective of its length being small or big. That's why he never falls a victim of formula acting. Let's analyze his movies in this regard. From 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' (1988), 'Dil' (1990), 'Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin' (1990), 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander' (1992), 'Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke' (1993), 'Andaz Apna' (1994), 'Rangeela' (1995), 'Raja Hindustani' (1996), 'Ishq' (1997), 'Ghulam' (1998), 'Sarfarosh' (1999), 'Lagaan', or ' Fanna' (2006) Aamir has never repeated the role.
Though Aamir's 'Mela' flopped, the actor returned with a bang with 'Lagaan: Once upon a time in India' being nominated for Oscars. Besides being an actor, he has proved his mantle as a director too. His recent directorial debut, 'Taare Zameen Par' has brought him laurels. The movie has received rave reviews and brought tears in the eyes of second iron man of Indian politics L.K.Advani. Similarly, India's first woman president Pratibha Patil has sung peans to Aamir's directorial debut. Hopefully, his next 'Ghajini' wouldn't let him down and add another feather in his cap.
This is all the more noteworthy that when Rupa Publications (Delhi) asked a writer to pen biographies, he says he chose Aamir, even ahead of Raj Kapoor. The book Aamir Khan: Actor with A Difference has been out for a while now. Only the other day, Samsung Telecommunications India has appointed Aamir Khan as brand ambassador for its mobile phones. The company plans to leverage Khan in its brand advertising as well as product advertising for mobile phones. The South Korean Company adds, "With Aamir Khan as our brand ambassador, our strong, differentiated product line-up, and our enhanced distribution reach, we should be in a position to double our market share in India this year".
This is to recall that the actor is getting anxious since morning in view of his earlier announcement that he would shave his head on his 43rd birthday (today) for the remake of his next 'Ghajini'. So, he has urged wife Kiran to cancel all elaborate celebrations for the evening, including the bash his wife had planned. Celebrity hairstylist Avan Contractor will shear his head between 7p.m. and 10 p.m. His vow of a "perfectionist" has cost him all this. Then, he would like to spend time with his children - Junaid and Aira, mother Zeenat, sisters Nikhat and Farhat. Kiran's parents and Aamir's close friends including adman-lyricist Prasoon Joshi and actor Amin Haji are likely to join his dinner table. What a pity! |
